April 2020 Update

I hope that everyone is well and coping with this very strange time. Two things to update you about. I had my viva and passed! I have to do some minor changes (re-label tables etc) then I’m done – and will be Dr Cunnington. I’ve also written a piece that’s been published by NAPAC – The National Association for People Abused in Childhood. You can read it here

  1. Hi Claire and congratulations! Now when you get asked that annoying question “is it Miss or Mrs?” you’ll be able to say “it’s Dr, actually”! I used to joke that that was my main reason for doing a PhD…
Thank you for the piece you wrote for NAPAC – it took me a long time to recognize that what I was feeling (or not) and how I deal with that (or not) all connects up and makes sense in relation to what happened to me when I was a kid. But no-one apart from my therapist seemed to be able to see those connections, and in the absence of hallucinatory flashbacks, calling it PTSD has felt weird, fraudulent even. I hope your work will help to make it better, and more widely, understood!

  2. Excellent piece of work, I couldn’t agree more and it sums up exactly how I suffer, so much more needs to be done to help survivors. I have recent input from the local mental health team and this is just so unrecognised.
